A NURSE working at the Alexandra Hospital has died after developing the symptoms of coronavirus.
Julie Omar, aged 52, worked as a sister at the Alexandra Hospital and is understood to have passed away at home on Friday after self-isolating.
In a video statement, Matthew Hopkins, chief executive of the Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust, said Mrs Omar was a "much-loved member of our nursing team".
He said Mrs Omar was a "dedicated and highly experienced trauma and orthopaedics nurse" and that he enjoyed chatting with her when at the Alexandra Hospital.
He added: "I know she will be sadly missed by many.
"I know that this news will have a profound impact on many of you, not least because it brings the tragic consequences of this outbreak even closer to home than it already was."
He also thanked NHS staff for their "continuing and great efforts" to help patients with Covid-19.
