A TAXI firm based in Kidderminster is delivering food shopping to people in self-isolation during the coronavirus lockdown.

Regency Taxis, which covers the Wyre Forest area, is teaming up with shops on estates in the district to ferry essentials to residents who are unable to get out to do their weekly shops.

Company partner Trevor Owen said: "We’ve always done deliveries of food if requested and prescriptions etc, but it’s not widely known.

"I strongly feel that it's okay having certain open times for elderly people at supermarkets but you can't expect them to queue for an hour or so before they can even get in the store.

"Supermarket owners need to think outside the box and remove the red tape. We want local shop owners and supermarkets whose delivery slots are full to know that we're here and ready to deliver."

Regency Taxis has already sent text messages out to all of its regular customers offering the service, which includes a flat rate £4 delivery charge for homes on the same estate as the shop, and is now looking to expand the service to more people in the district.

To book a delivery, people should contact Regency Taxis on 01562 66666.

Customers will then be asked to phone their local shop with a shopping list. The shop will pack the items and customers can pay over the phone.

Regency Taxis will then collect and deliver the shopping to the customers' doorstep within the hour.

The delivery payment can be left in a safe place or customers can pay via contactless.
