SPECIAL bags for nurses’ uniforms is a project now being run by Pershore Abbey Embroidery Guild.

Members will be creating cloth bags for nurses to take home used uniforms for washing, minimising any risk of infection – the bags too can go in the wash.

“Most of us have sewing machines and plenty of spare material,” said Stella Reeves, secretary of the guild, “and it makes a change from mending worn church fabrics.”

The project is part of several activities by the Abbey members and clergy to help local communities, both practically and spiritually. Rev Claire Lording, Abbey vicar, said: “We want to keep in touch with everyone so we have created some lively and interesting content for our website and social media platforms.”

Trudy Burge, who organises the abbey online material, listed some of the popular facilities.

These include the CE Morning and Evening prayer services, the Abbey Community Prayer group on Facebook and a daily Pershore Vicarage Vlog with a video by the vicar, posted on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The church website also lists all local public information on behalf of the Pershore Town Council, while the teddy bear Pershore Abi is asking children to plant sunflowers for the pollinators.

Churches Together Foodbank now runs on Fridays at St Andrew’s Centre, with volunteer staff solving any problems of supply and delivery.
