A POPULAR pub held its re-opening night after being shut for a refurbishment.

The Coach and Horses in the Tything has had a drastic makeover courtesy of the pub's brewery, Marstons.

Worcester News:

Scott McGuinness has been drinking in the pub for 30 years. He said: “I was really shocked when I first came in. Louise and James have done an absolutely fantastic job, especially in just two short weeks.

Worcester News:

"It feels wonderful, like a quintessentially British pub but really modern and inviting.

"Before it was really tired. It was dying really. Now I can see it being the hub of the community, it is a place that is really nice to be in.

"The fact that it is dog friendly as well is a huge bonus for me. Now me and Bertie can pop in and have a drink."

Worcester News:

Landlords, Louise Andrews, 40, and James Lovett, 34, took over the running of the Coach and Horses in November.

It is the pair's first time running a pub.

Worcester News:

Mr Lovett said when the couple first took over the pub it took hours to clean as it was "in a right state".

It is now transformed.

Mr Lovett said: "We are so pleased with how it looks now. We wanted it to be the same old coach and horses that people know and love, but with more modern elements - we worked hard to keep the cozy feel.

"Considering we were only shut for two weeks, the place has changed so dramatically, the bar has been moved and the space has really opened up. We had fifteen guys in every day working on it, they have done a brilliant job.

"We are building up really good connections with the locals and the community, it is great, I am living my dream. The locals make the place what it is. It is not our pub it 's theirs.

Worcester News:

"It was important for this place to be inclusive for everyone. We have a little pooch and he is part of the family, so we made it dog friendly and now have two open fires. It is ideal to come in for a glass of wine or a pint and sit by the fire when you have taken the dog for a walk."

Worcester News:

"I am feeling super happy and positive about our opening night, we expect it to be busy. Everything has gone fabulously and we can't wait to get stuck in and keep making things at the coach better."
