SOLDIERS have been stood down from Hampton Bishops where they have been working with fire crews to offer support to flood-affected residents.

Firefighters have been out, knocking on doors to give advice to affected householders while others have been busy pumping out care homes.

A spokesperson said: "Assistance has also been given to the ambulance service in getting to casualties while workers have been helped in getting to and from work.

"Welfare checks have also been carried in around 40 to 50 homes in Holme Lacy Road in Hereford to ensure people are staying safe while advice and assistance has also been given to residents in Whitchurch."

West Mercia Police, soldiers from 5 Rifles and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue have been working together in the Hereford area in response to the flooding.

The regiment were stood down at 9am this morning having been in the area providing specialist skills and equipment to assist with specific elements of the flood response since Monday morning.
