A BROTHER and sister have praised the community for uniting to donate food, clothing and other items to people hit by the flooding – and they are appealing for even more help.

Steve and Ellie Symonds set up a drop-off donation point at Powick Church, in The Greenway, on Tuesday (February 18), and people in need were invited to attend between 5pm and 9pm last night, to collect items they have been left without due to the effects of Storm Dennis.

Miss Symonds, 24, said: “People have been kind and have been taking in donations. So many people have lost items in their homes from the floods.

“It’s for everyone in Worcester, not just the residents in Powick. Everyone seems so badly affected. We want to help everyone, or at least as many people as we can.

“The whole community has come together. The amount of donations we have received has been unbelievable.”

Miss Symonds added: “People in Powick were evacuated and haven’t been back to their houses yet.

“We want to make people aware that if they are in need of stuff, we can help.”

The family are appealing for donations such as clothes, food, bedding, pet food, toiletries, crockery, household items and so on.

Meanwhile, a free evening meal will be available at the Red Lion, in The Village, Powick, tonight (Thursday).

Mr Symonds, aged 26, said: “If your house has been flooded, come and visit us and take items that you may need to help you get sorted. There’s also free tea and coffee.”

Miss Symonds added that the items will be available for the community to help themselves to over the weekend at the pub.

Mr Symonds, who is a chef at Bank House Hotel in Bransford, will be cooking the food on the night.

Sausage, mash and vegetables will be available, as well as pudding.

Bennetts Ice Cream has also donated their sweet treats for people to enjoy a dessert.
