THREE local community groups have been awarded an 'extra special' donation totalling £2,000 from a Hereford supermarket.

The donations were made as part of the green token scheme, which allows customers at Asda in Hereford to pick groups and causes close to their hearts.

The winning group, Hereford Food Bank, was awarded £1,000 which will help it continue its work to provide food parcels for those in need.

Jacquie Alsop from the charity said: "The extra funding will help to purchase a large chest freezer so that we are able to buy bread and rolls and have somewhere to store them, it means we will be able to support even more local people in Hereford."

"The £1000 donation from the Asda Foundation is greatly appreciated and will be a huge help to us."

June Thurston from the supermarket added: "At Asda, we're always thrilled when customers' chosen good causes benefit from these vital funding boosts and we get to raise awareness of what they do."
