STAFF from a Worcester supported housing service have received a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The team from Sanctuary Supported Living’s, Hazel Court, which provides care and support for adults with learning disabilities in their own apartments, were commended for placing people at the “heart” of the service.
Noted in the report was the team’s kind and caring approach to residents, and how they built professional relationships with the people they supported. Residents said that staff knew them well, and relatives described the team as knowing how to meet their loved ones’ needs.
The team worked hard to encourage residents to respect equality and diversity. For example, residents took part in ‘Around the world’ sessions to help them understand different cultures and food.
Also highlighted was the fact that people had autonomy over their own life choices. The report stated: “People said they were in control of making the decisions about their day-to-day support.
“They also said they could do what they wanted, when they wanted to.”
Sara Brown, Sanctuary Supported Living’s local service manager for Hazel Court, said: “We’re really proud of this outcome from the CQC.
“We’ve worked hard to create a safe, supportive and caring environment for the residents to embrace their independence.”
