A PARLIAMENTARY candidate claims she has experienced ‘aggressive’ behaviour from the Labour party.

Around 20 Liberal Democrats board signs have been destroyed in Malvern after a spate of vandalism.

Beverley Nielsen, Liberal Democrats parliamentary candidate for West Worcestershire, claims party activists have been trolling her social media accounts, including her own personal Facebook page.

Mrs Nielsen said: "The first manifestation of aggressive campaigning tactics became apparent through activists from the Labour Party trolling our social media accounts, including my own personal Facebook page.

“Later we observed some vandalism of our poster boards and we even had some of our own activists intimidated by activists from other parties.”

She added: “People felt freely able to vandalise our property whilst we were standing close by and accusing us of illegal activities which were unfounded.

“Name-calling and aggressive rhetoric have been a feature throughout. After this past five weeks I feel far more strongly anti-one party than the other because of their continued aggressive stance."

Dan Boatright, Mrs Nielsen's campaign manager, said: “These attacks are happening all over the county and we have had loads attacked.

“We have also been trolled on social media by Labour supporters and also yelled at in the streets.”

Mr Boatright, from Pershore, aged 36 added: “I have had to start blocking people from my Twitter account.

“People have been saying that we’re murderers. It’s been very aggressive, and they’ve been making things personal.

“People have been saying Beverley is ‘nothing but a Tory and that she’s not a Lib Dem’. She’s been angry about this. It’s been very childish.

“We have been on the receiving end of aggressive behaviour.”

Samantha Charles, Labour parliamentary candidate for West Worcestershire said: “I’m sad to hear that Lib Dem signs have been vandalised.

“The vote Labour sign outside my own house has been destroyed twice and I’ve seen Conservative signs around Malvern also defaced.

“I get challenged on social media by people from all walks of life and political background, as do the other candidates and this is a common experience for those of us who choose to stand.”
