THE sister to a missing man has posted a heartfelt message about what the family will face during their second Christmas without him.

The message was posted on Facebook, which comes almost two years since the last confirmed sighting of Matthew Bone. The message was posted on the profile of Matthew Bone - Missing Person.

His sister, Katie Bone said: “We are facing our second Christmas without him. As the decorations go up and Christmas music starts playing everyone is getting excited, yet I feel more panicked and anxious. I stand in shops staring at the ‘brother’ Christmas cards feeling empty and dazed.

“I cannot make up my mind if I should buy anything for him or not. I want to just in case, but I know it will upset me more that he is not here to receive it. Ultimately, it could become yet another object that reminds me that he is not here, and I cannot face that.”

Miss Bone added: “I remember so vividly the last time I saw Matt – I told him I was worried about him and that I loved him. I relive this moment every day and think about how things could have gone differently.

“I spend hours running through scenarios in my mind, trying to find the one that would result in Matt being here with us now. I wish I didn’t let him leave, I wish I fought more, I didn’t understand what was going on, what was at stake.

“Not in my wildest dreams did I think that it would turn out like this. I kept the tissue I used to dry my eyes from that day in my coat pocket, I cannot bring myself to throw it away. I keep thinking that I will allow myself to throw it away when he comes home. You do odd things when you are in pain and when you want something so desperately.

“Some days I can come to terms with the fact that Matt is missing, however for the majority of the time I kid myself that everything is fine. But I know it’s not fine, my brother is missing, and we don’t know what has happened to him.”

The 28-year-old is described as white, around 5ft 7in tall, of slim build, with brown hair and bluey/grey coloured eyes.

Matthew is known to have visited Stanbrook Abbey Hotel in Callow End, where he was captured on CCTV on March 9, 2018. Police got more than 30 reports of potential sightings of Matthew after his family, from Portsmouth, appeared in the ITV documentary Long Lost Family.
