A BOXING coach has yet to enter a plea to causing grievous bodily harm with intent after an alleged 'slap'.

Jonathan Shaw, 29, of Mendip Close, Malvern appeared at Worcester Crown Court yesterday accused of striking 37-year-old David-Paul Hannay with an 'open-handed slap' on Saturday, November 2. An ambulance was called to Keystones nightclub, Worcester. We reported at the time how the injured man suffered bleeding on the brain and was in an induced coma. The case will feature CCTV footage of the alleged assault. Jason Patel, for Shaw, was granted an adjournment to allow for legal aid to be resolved. Shaw was granted bail on condition of residence and that he does not contact the complainant or witnesses.

He is not to enter Worcester save to attend the gym in Tolladine Road where he works between 9am and 8pm, Monday to Saturday.

Shaw remains on an electronically monitored curfew between 9pm and 7am daily. Bail was varied to allow him to attend 'Gloves Are Off' at Perdiswell Leisure Centre between 2pm and 8pm this Saturday.

The next hearing will take place at Worcester Crown Court on December 16.
