A DRUNK man who managed to rip an unrippable jumper and blanket given to him by police, has had to pay £130 to get them replaced.

When Nathan Fox pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and criminal damage to property, he told magistrates: "I am guilty, but it is ironic I ripped something that is unrippable."

Emily Clewer, prosecuting, said police were called just after 9pm on October 4 to The Cross, where the 29-year-old was arguing with door staff at The Slug and Lettuce.

Miss Clewer said: "He was shouting and swearing and generally being abusive.

"He refused to leave the area. He refused to listen to officers who were requesting him to stop swearing."

Miss Clewer said he was arrested and taken to Worcester Police Station, where he was given a jumper and blanket provided to him by staff.

"He ripped them to the point they could not be used again, and had to be replaced," Miss Clewer said.

Mark Sheward, defending, said Fox had been drinking to excess that night.

"He ripped clothing due to frustration, Mr Sheward said.

"He accepts responsibility."

Mr Sheward said the court appearance had taken place during a pivotal moment in his life.

"He has been drinking now to excess for four years," he said.

"He has lost his girlfriend, his friends no longer speak to him, he is an alcoholic."

Mr Sheward said Fox, of McIntyre Road, Worcester, said he was getting help and going to AA meetings as he didn't want to be an alcoholic "into his 30s, 40s and 50s".
