ROALD Dahl has provided the most popular author during this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

The world-famous children’s author’s books filled seven of the top 10 places for Most Popular Reads.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, Cabinet Member for Communities, said:“I’m really pleased that children have been letting their imagination run wild this summer.

"Roald Dahl books have proven to be really popular. They are timeless, inspire creativity and imagination, and simply put a smile on your face."

The top 10 books read by children also included 'Ratburger' by David Walliams.

The challenge, which is co-ordinated by The Reading Agency and delivered by Worcestershire Libraries, aimed to encourage children aged between 4 and 12 to borrow and read six books over the summer.

The Space Chase theme for this year’s challenge was inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.
