A HOTEL in Bishops Castle has won national recognition.

The temperature may be dropping as the nights are closing in, yet as we wave goodbye to the long, hot summer, it’s a great time to grab a seasonal bargain.

The Great Inns of Britain, a hand-picked collection of 20 traditional coaching inns and small independent luxury hotels, have some crisp, autumn offers to provide the perfect excuse to celebrate the season of amber and gold.

Imagine toasting toes beside a roaring fire, warming comfort food showcasing glorious seasonal produce, gorgeous country walks, a bracing stroll on the beach in the autumn sunshine. Just some of the reasons to sneak a seasonal get-away.

The Castle Hotel in Bishops Castle is one of the 20 listed. It celebrated its 300th birthday in 2019, has featured in The Good Hotel Guide for 15 years running.

There are a number of factors that have been considered in drawing up the list.

These include having had a history of being highly rated.

Location is also a vital factor and Bishops Castle is in one of the most beautiful parts of the country with the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close at hand.

It is also only a short distance from many interesting and historic towns like Ludlow to the south and Shrewsbury to the North.

The nationally recognised Acton Scott Working Farm is nearby and so is the quirky Museum of Lost Content in Craven Arms and Stokesday Castle, a historic fortified manor house on the English and Welsh Border. Many of the hotels in the guide also allow people to take well behaved dogs with them on holiday.

Food and drink are also important factors both in the Hotel and the surrounding area with south Shropshire being home to some of the finest food in the country as well as a number of small independent breweries.

Opportunities for walking and cycling for visitors are also advantages.
