A CHARITY race day which raised £5,000 for local causes was a ‘huge success', says the organiser.

Worcestershire Ambassadors hosted the race day at Worcester Racecourse for its second year.

Two hundred people attended from local businesses and the wider community.

Julia William, vice chair, said: “Worcestershire Ambassadors aim is to promote Worcestershire as a great place to live, work, invest, visit and do business and what better way to do it than to hold a race day at Worcester Racecourse. The event was a huge success."

Funds raised by Worcestershire Ambassadors this year support St Pauls Hostel, Worcester Community Trust and other causes within the community.

Jenny Cheshire, executive director from Worcester Racecourse, said: “We are delighted to be working with Worcestershire Ambassadors and showcasing all we do at the racecourse.

"They have booked with us again for next year which we are really grateful for.

“It’s a really successful and positive event. It was a lovely day and keeps people together in a relaxed environment. One thing about race day is that people can sit down and also walk around to network with different people.”

The event, which took place on September 10, supported the charities St Paul's Hostel and Worcester Community Trust.

Jonathon Sutton, chief executive for St Paul’s Hostel said: “Many of the chronically homeless people we help are victims of childhood abuse or neglect that has damaged their ability to form secure attachments with other people.

“The money from the Ambassadors will fund our therapeutic services, for example our onsite counsellor or training staff, so that healthy minds can promote recovery and social reintegration.”

Ruth Heywood, chief executive from Worcester Community Trust said: 'Worcester Community Trust have had a wonderful year so far, being involved as charity of the year for the WA.

“The funds raised from the WA events across this year will go towards supporting local people, in particular offering accredited training, volunteering and an opportunity for local people to come together in their communities to have a positive impact on their mental health.

“This year has also given the Trust chance to meet many other likeminded people, businesses and share the impact of all the valuable work we deliver to the most in need in Worcester.”
