THERE was a fantastic atmosphere in Worcester this weekend as the City Run and Music Festival returned for another year. Thousands of people took part, whether running, performing or spectating, and the city truly embraced each event.
The growing support, with increasing numbers of participants and attendees each year, shows just how enthusiastic Worcester’s residents are for such big events. Yes, you always get a few people complaining about the inconvenience of the disruption caused by road closures and large crowds, but generally our city’s residents are overwhelmingly positive.
Of course, events like the City Run and Music Festival are good for Worcester’s economy. More people come into the city centre on this weekend than the average one, meaning more customers at local businesses.
As our high streets change, with online shopping forcing many stores to close their premises, big events like the City Run, Music Festival and Victorian Christmas market are increasingly important dor driving people into the city centre. Long may they continue!
