A MAN suffered a gunshot wound after being shot 'by accident on a hunting trip'.

The man in his 50s turned up injured to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in the early hours of Friday morning. He is now at the Queen Elizabeth (QE) Hospital in Birmingham recovering from a serious shoulder injury, and it is understood the injury is not life threatening.

We understand the man was accidentally shot by his friend with an air rifle during a hunting trip for deer and rabbits.

Police have said the man was shot in Upton, but there are no further details on the exact location.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "At 2.09am we were called to transfer a patient from Worcester Royal Hospital to the QE.

"The man had initially self presented at Worcestershire Royal.

"The patient had suffered a gunshot wound, and is in hospital receiving treatment.

"The injuries are not thought to be life threatening."

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Police were called at around 1.50am this morning to reports of a man being admitted to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with a gun shot wound.

"The victim, a man in his 50s, sustained serious injury to his shoulder but is in a stable condition and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. "Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident but believe it to be an accident and are not treating it as suspicious."
