Pershore Plum Festival will be handing out wallet cards to both men and women with advice on how to check themselves, or their partner, for testicular cancer.

The festival is supporting It's in the Bag (IITB), the testicular cancer charity for the South West whose aims are to raise awareness, provide support and celebrate survival.

The cards will be given out with plum sales over the main festival weekend which runs over the Bank Holiday from the 24th to 26th August.

Richard Bullard, one of the charity's founders said: "We are delighted to be a part of the Pershore Plum Festival this year. IITB covers the whole of the south west from Worcestershire down to Cornwall. The cards offer advice on how to correctly check your testes and as well as a reminder do it regularly. Everyone has a role to play in raising awareness about this type of cancer, which is the most common one found in young men.

Early diagnosis is crucial and has helped raise the survival rate to 98%. It also means reducing the possibility of chemotherapy and other treatment. The message to Keep Calm and Check Your Balls links very well with the Plum Festival!"

Orchards in the Pershore produce tons of popular plums every year. Varieties such as Victoria, Majorie Seedling, Heron, Monarch, Pershore Purple, Pershore Yellow Egg Plum and Pershore Emblem are some of the most well known and sought after plums the Vale produces.

The area has been famous for its fruit growing since medieval times.
