A GROUP of fundraisers from Malvern braved high temperatures to walk the all 34 miles of the Worcestershire Way in one day for St Richards Hospice.

Members of Team Zulu are all fans of the classic Sixties film, and dress up in pith helmets for their charitable exploits.

Team founder Tarquin Shaw-Young said: "Our day began at 4pm when we left Malvern for Worcester to get a bus to Bewdley where we began our walk at 5.45am, finishing fourteen and a half hours later at the Red Lion in Great Malvern.

"The team finished in high spirits, despite the heat and arduous ascent and descent of the walk."

Among those taking part was Mr Shaw-Young’s brother-in-law Adrian Brown, who had travelled 13,500 miles from New Zealand to participate.

He said: "It was great to be part of such an amazing event, I’ve been wanting to join the team since it began, so it was brilliant to finally take part. It was a tough day but very rewarding."

So far, this year's event has raised nearly £1,800 and rising each day.

Mr Shaw-Young said: "Our team continues to meet the challenge of the walk.

"No two years have been the same. It's a truly spectacular walk through a magnificent slice of English countryside to raise money for such a brilliant cause."

Team Zulu plans to be back next year, which will be its tenth anniversary.
