WEST Mercia's police and crime commissioner has thrown his weight behind Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid's campaign to be the next conservative leader.

John Campion is the latest local figure to endorse Mr Javid as the next leader of the Conservative and Unionist party after Worcester MP, Robin Walker, also gave Mr Javid his seal of approval.

John Campion said: “As Commissioner I have seen first hand Sajid Javid's vision, leadership and drive as Home Secretary and as a constituency MP in Bromsgrove.

"He not only has listened and understood the support our police service and his community need, he has worked hard to deliver it.”

Mr Campion added: “The Conservative party and the country needs a leader that will deliver Brexit, then get on with delivering vital public service reform and investment.

"Sajid Javid is the leader my party and our country needs, ensuring we boldly leave the European Union to a brighter future of a more prosperous and fairer society.”

Mr Javid's campaign was given another massive boost recently when he was backed by hugely popular Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson.

She is the most powerful Tory to support the Home Secretary’s quest to be the next PM.

Ms Davidson said he was “the real deal” and “man for the job.”

And she added: “His life embodies the Conservative values of aspiration, education, opportunity, hard work and just reward.”

Mr Javid is one of a number of MPs in competition for the top job.

Among others who have also put their names forward are Boris Johnson, Dominic Raab, Jeremy Hunt, Andrea Leadsom and Michael Gove.
