WORCESTER MP has paid tribute to the Prime Minister who announced she was quitting yesterday.

On the steps of Downing Street Theresa May said she will quit as Conservative leader on June 7, paving the way for a contest to decide a new prime minister.

In the statement she said had done her best to deliver Brexit, but regretted that she had been unable to do so.

The city MP, who has served in the government as Brexit minister, tweeted: "Theresa May has has served this country for decades with dedication and determination.

"She deserves our thanks for her patriotic service as Prime Minister, home secretary, MP and councillor.

"As Conservatives look to the future and new leadership, we should take time to thank her for hers."

The European election vote took place on Thursday, and results of the elections are set to be revealed on Sunday.
