WORK to improve The Shambles in Worcester is progressing well, says the county council.

Efforts are currently focussed on the western side of the street, and include resurfacing the footway and carriageway, introducing segregated loading bays for delivery vehicles, planting trees, improving street furniture and upgrading lighting.

Over the coming weeks, work will continue down the west side towards Pump Street and then switch to the east and work back up The Shambles.

Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: “Work on The Shambles is progressing nicely and you can already see the difference these improvements are making. Once the work is complete, the area will be significantly improved, providing another example of the investments being made to improve the city and town centres across Worcestershire.”

Marie Samuels, retail area manager at Pavers Shoes, said: “We joined The Shambles over a year ago now and the area has seen some vast improvements to the thoroughfare.

“The shop remains open during all of the ongoing works. The teams have kept us updated and we have worked alongside them to ensure as little disruption as possible to trade.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers at this time but look forward to working in an improved environment when the work is complete.”
