A COUNCILLOR has teamed up with a martial arts expert to provide free kick boxing lessons for women.

St John’s councillor Richard Udall, in partnership with the county council’s Adult Learning and the Worcester Community Trust, has paved the way for the course which starts next Thursday (May 16).

Fighting Fit will take place at the Dines Green Community Centre and be led by Sally Gleaves, who has been practising Taekwon-Do for over 20 years, and in 2018 became a fifth dan-ranked black belt.

She also has experience in Karate, Kickboxing, MMA and Aikido, and teaches self-defence and personal awareness for women.

County and city councillor Udall said: “For a long time I have been hearing requests from women living in St John’s to learn about kick boxing – this course really sounds like it could be good fun and also good for health.

“It will be an introduction to the sport and I hope more activities will follow, this is just the beginning of kick boxing in Dines Green.”

Ms Gleaves said it’s a “pleasure to organise an event in Dines Green”.

“I love getting out and about and teaching other women the message about exercise and well-being.

“There are no entry requirements, any woman can join, any age, size or physical ability. Give it a go.”

Starting at 9.30am, the sessions will include a 50-minute introductory kickboxing and fitness class to include 15-20 minutes of metabolic conditioning then 30-35 minutes of beginner level boxing & Kickboxing drills.

Each week the women will also discuss a range of lifestyle factors that may affect motivation and mood.

Boxing gloves, pads and other fitness equipment will be provided.
