POLICE patrol is set to increase in Worcester following published figures revealing a city centre street is the worst for crime.

Angel Street in Worcester stands out as a hotspot for crime which includes violence and anti-social behaviour, according to the latest data published by Police.uk which holds national data about crime in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Of the 415 crimes reported in Worcester in February this year, 32 of them took place in Angel Street.

Inspector David Troth said: "Angel Street remains a popular focal point for Worcester's night-time economy and sees many people congregate here, particularly at weekends after the pubs and clubs close.

"Tackling antisocial behaviour in Worcester city centre remains a priority for the Safer Neighbourhood Team and we continue to work closely with local businesses to train their staff in safeguarding young people and dealing with any conflict that may arise.

"We are also committed to ensuring that there is an increased police presence in this area during these busier periods to offer community reassurance and resolve any reported issues.

"A number of Community Protection Notices (CPNs) and Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) have also been issued to those individuals’ intent on causing issues in and around Angel Street.

"We will not tolerate antisocial behaviour in our community and will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice."

Speaking about Angel Street, Worcschap claims it is the most run-down area in Worcester, adding: “It's a complete hovel. If it wasn't for McDonald's it'd be completely dead. Not only are the empty units an eyesore, it's a hotbed for the smackheads and dossers to laze about in - the alley that leads to The Crown being particularly disgusting. Knock it all down and start again.”

34Club said: “It's by far one of the most disliked areas of the city. But it has been the same for 35 years plus."

Dan russell said: “It’s the busiest street at kicking out time. Fights happen all the time, yet no decent CCTV? Companies should also have to supply working CCTV if they wish to supply an out of hours service for the protection of customers/staff.”

Nosey1 said: “Police numbers cut and all-night alcohol available and this is what you get."
