THEFT is a horrendous act in general, however, stealing from a child is a whole new level of low – it is utter disgraceful.

In a recent story, the Worcester News reported that a pre-school had suffered from two break-ins over the Easter holidays.

Upon returning to St Peter’s Pre School, in Droitwich, the children and staff were heartbroken to discover a torn down fence, garden toys damaged, a playhouse stolen, and broken glass shattered across the garden.

It is devastating that children had returned to school following their two-week break to find their pre-school, which they think of as being a safe place, had been vandalised and their toys had been stolen.

After speaking to the pre-school manager, Trudie Harris, regarding the burglary, she claims a child approached her saddened by the incident and asked where the playhouse had gone.

This is heart-breaking and shows these thieves clearly lack remorse. How shallow can someone be to steal from a child?

The fence was damaged in the first week of the holidays, but it was quickly repaired. However, after suffering from the first vandalism attack to then further damage the following week, it is extremely disheartening for the staff who work hard to ensure children feel safe and enjoy their first step into education.

A dummy camera was set up while both incidents occurred, however it was destroyed during the break-ins. Unfortunately, with no footage of the crime, it will be difficult that the vandals will ever be detected. I do not understand how anyone could live with themselves after stealing toys and taking away enjoyment from an innocent child’s life.

With already so much cruelty in the world, it is important for the community to stick together and collaborate when these things happen.

The parents from the pre-school and the community have come together to support and offer donations to replace the stolen playhouse. It will be a challenge to replace the playhouse, as St Peter’s Pre School is charity run, meaning the school relies on donations to run activities and buy the school's equipment.

I hope someone comes forward as a witness and the person/people responsible are found.
