A WHOPPING 290 bags of rubbish have been collected in Bromsgrove by volunteers taking part in The Great British Spring Clean.

A dedicated group of volunteers said they would carry out or support a clean-up activity every day for the duration of the month-long event.

Local community group Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful said members were determined to play their part to help improve the environment on their doorstep.

And they did.

They completed the challenge of at least one clean-up activity happening in the Bromsgrove district every day - 150 clean up activities.

The group, which saw almost 400 people get involved, spent 110 hours tidying and collected 290 bags of litter.

Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful founder and Keep Britain Tidy #LitterHeroes Ambassador, Sarah Milburn also completed her own challenge of cleaning a grubby road sign, every day.

She cleaned 33 signs in 33 days.

"I was cleaning signs up until 10.15pm on the night of the 23rd to get them all done in time," she said.

"I will be continuing to clean signs and place rocks, but just in my own area of Aston Fields – my hope is that a few people may have been inspired to look after those in their own neighbourhoods."

She thanked a number of people and organisations for their support saying the group could not have achieved what it did without it.

"Thank you to the incredible volunteers – young and old, Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful members or not, groups and solo, unsung heroes: all of you. You warm my heart and make me so proud to live here.

"For now, for the group is back to our monthly litter picks on the last Saturday of every month. But I’m sure there will be more small litter picks all round the district. Why not set one up in your on neighbourhood, where you can source equipment through us.

"Keep on keeping Bromsgrove beautiful."
