GREEN councillors are the adults in a room full of tribal politics and pettiness, the leader of the Green Party has said during a visit to the county.

Sian Berry, co-leader of the Green Party, came to Evesham last Thursday meeting local members.

During the visit the co-leader spent time talking about both the Green Party’s national plans and the local group’s importance in these, answering questions as she spoke. Ms Berry also gave her to support Julie Tucker, a Green candidate in the upcoming Wychavon district elections.

Speaking to the Journal's sister paper, the Worcester News, when Ms Berry visited the city that day, she said: "Not only are we raising the issues about environment like road safety that other people may not be but we are also keen to change the way politics is done to make things more collaborative and to make sure every party has a voice.

"In somewhere like Worcester where it is much more finely balanced, us holding the balance of power can be a hugely positive influence on the way of doing politics.

“The influence they [Green councillors] have had on the budget setting process and the way that the Green Party has worked in Worcester is an absolute model for the much more constructive way the Greens do politics.

“We are the adult’s in the room when others are being tribal and petty.”

The trip also included a lunch that was provided by volunteers at the Evesham Adventure Playground Pop-UP café, with the co-leaders saying she was excited by the wide range of activities there including the bike swap scheme, meaning that as children grow they are able to up size their bikes without cost, commenting that she thought it was "a fantastic project".
