THE River Wye in Hereford will be treated to a series of deep cleans this summer, ahead of the lively Wye Float event in August.
Kicking off on May 18, the sessions will see attention focused on clearing litter including trollies, bikes and other metal objects from the picturesque stretch of water between the Green Bridge and the Victoria Bridge.
Organisers Wye Float have teamed up with other groups to tackle the problem of river rubbish and are calling on volunteers to join them in their mission to make the Wye sparkle.
This year, members of Hereford Sub Aqua Club have volunteered their services to clear deeper areas of the river, whilst Hereford Youth Canoe Club will be providing kayaks and canoes for volunteers.
Alternative arrangements can be made for those who do not wish to participate on the water.
A river safety briefing will be given to all volunteers and safety equipment will be provided at the event, which will be supervised by qualified instructors.
Accompanied children over 12 are welcome to join the clean-up effort.
If you'd like to volunteer to join the first deep-clean session, head to the Castle Green in Hereford for 10am on May 18.
Further clean-up sessions will take place on June 15 and July 13.
