YOUNGSTERS and their families and teachers enjoyed a special event celebrating the diversity of their school with a singing and dancing extravaganza.

Sledmere Primary School in Dudley held the multicultural event earlier this month, where children learned how to bhangra dance.

The youngsters were joined by their families and Dudley North MP Ian Austin also joined in with the fun.

Ian Austin MP said: “Congratulations to Mrs Basrai and everyone involved in organising a fantastic multicultural evening at the school to celebrate our community’s diversity and unity.

“It was brilliant to see so many local people who enjoyed lots of dancing and singing from the pupils.

“It is a privilege to represent an area which is home to diverse communities, with people from different countries, backgrounds and cultures. “

Paul Harrison, CEO of the school's multi academy trust, said: "Lions of Panjab put on a sensational performance, they invited staff, children and their families on stage to learn some of the Bhangra dance moves.

"The real stars of the show were the children who sang, danced and performed with real enthusiasm to create an evening that we will remember for a long time. Thank you to those who attended the evening was fantastic and enjoyed by all."
