Who was Marilyn Monroe?

Find out at The Swan Theatre in Worcester, although she won’t be there in person, of course.

Or perhaps she will, with a new play that looks behind the make-up and the glamour.

A spokesman said: “She is one of the most iconic women in history, yet the world still asks the question: did we really know who she was? Did she?

“This playful and poignant play is Marilyn’s story, told by her, alone in her dressing room. Not the girl in that white dress with the pouting red lips and the curvaceous figure, but Marilyn stripped back and bare – just an ordinary girl telling her story.”

Direct from its West End run, Breakthrough Theatre presents this brand new, one-woman show, following Marilyn’s dark and thrill-filled life.

The spokesman added: “Marilyn is Breakthrough Theatre’s first professionally produced production. They wanted to create work about iconic women: Myra Hindley, Joan of Arc, Princess Diana and others, but it was only when they started discussing Marilyn that they felt they had found the perfect fit. They were intrigued by how, after so many years, people are still so fascinated by her.

“Her image and persona is famous worldwide but why is she so iconic? Breakthrough Theatre wanted to tell a story that has never been told, and there’s so much more to her story than people know. Did people ever really know the real girl behind the mask? Or is that the reason for the on-going fascination?”

On tour from the West End, Marilyn is now on a nationwide tour, stopping by the Vesta Tilley Studio at the Swan Theatre this March.

The show takes place on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9, at 7.45pm.
