A TEACHER who has been described as ‘bubbly, positive and oozing enthusiasm’ has been nominated for a Worcestershire Education Award.

Sarah James, from Nunnery Wood Primary School, in Prestwich Avenue, has been nominated for Teacher of the Year Award.

The 23-year-old said: “I feel so privileged I did not see this coming. I am so happy – it is a lovely feeling to be recognised for your efforts.

“The main goal of being a teacher is to make a difference to every student. It is important to teach the children about manners, resilience and how to become confident in themselves. We want them to develop and be the person they want to be.

“By being creative and having fun it allows the children to engage, which I believe is essential for children to learn.”

Miss James describes herself as an energetic individual, which has led on to her being nicknamed ‘Tigger’ in class.

She added: “I am probably more energetic than most of the children.

"Being a teacher was always my dream growing up. When I was little, I was bossy and had so much enthusiasm to learn.”

Rachel Smith, a parent from the school who nominated Miss James, said: “My daughter went into Miss James’ class in September 2019 feeling anxious and scared as she had been newly diagnosed with diabetes.

"My daughter has lacked confidence through her early years and struggled with her learning. Miss James has turned my daughter into a different child.

“She has this ability to make each child feel they are their own individual and boosts their confidence in learning in such a way the child seems to flourish.

“Miss James is a bubbly, happy and positive teacher and oozes enthusiasm about almost anything to do with education.”

The deadline for nominations is April 18. Finalists are chosen by a panel of judges and winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the University Arena in Worcester on June 20.
