Samantha Lloyd is a specialist in wills and probate, heading up that department and a partner at SME Solicitors, a well-known law firm in Sansome Walk, Worcester.

Born into an RAF family, Samantha, 45, went to university in Sheffield to study law before qualifying in 2000.

She said: “Being in an RAF family it was not your typical childhood, we moved around a lot and I moved schools several times, but what I now realise is that doing that gives you experience of meeting different types of people.

“I fell into law really, I decided it was something I would be interested in doing. I suppose it was a case of finding the thing I enjoyed and knew a lot about.”

In 2014, Samantha joined SME in Worcester having worked in the midlands since 2011. She is now head of the probate and wills department, an area of law she says is vital, despite the subject matter.

She said: “Wills and probate is a very delicate subject. You are speaking with someone about the end of their life or that of a loved one and you must handle it sensitively.

“That is why I made sure my team, support staff and full staff are all compassionate people who can empathise. That really makes a difference with wills.

“We are seeing more and more people think about wills, probate and power of attorney, and it really is important as the consequences for you and your family if you do not take care of them can be a real problem.

“It is not just about having a will, but making sure that the will you write is up to date because you just don’t know what might happen.”

Samantha added that teamwork is vital, saying: “It would not work without having such a good team.

“It is really important that they are understanding and have empathy with clients, not just in my department, but across the firm. That goes for being a partner too, we all have to work together across our different departments and specialisms to make SME Solicitors successful so teamwork really is crucial.”
