A new exhibition of contemporary crafts opens tomorrow, Friday, in the historic and atmospheric setting of Hereford Cathedral crypt.
Crafting the Cathedral is an exhibition bringing together contemporary craft artefacts, created and designed as a personal response to Hereford Cathedral by second year students from Hereford College of Arts BA (Hons) Contemporary Design Crafts and BA (Hons) Jewellery Design courses.
The students have responded to the cathedral's stunning architecture, history and purpose as a place of worship, a process that has resulted in an engaging range of creative outcomes.
The Contemporary Design Crafts degree programme at Hereford College of Arts has for some time worked closely with a range of external partners exploring new ways of engaging audiences with objects and places.
"It's been a really important, demanding, yet rewarding challenge to create interpretive objects that live up to the building, the people and items that live there," said Helen Marton, course leader. "The Cathedral and its varied artefacts have astonishing metaphorical power, our students have been able to effectively focus upon some of their curious and interesting stories.”
The exhibition is open during Cathedral opening hours from Friday, December 14 to Saturday, January 5. entry is free.
