TWO men have admitted robbing a man of his car on the M5.

The car was later driven at 130mph and involved in a crash.

Imram Ahmed and Mohammed Asim both pleaded guilty to robbery when they appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Monday, December 12.

The offence happened on the M5 near junction 4 (Bromsgrove) on June 29 last year when both men were involved in robbing Stuart Armour of his Volkswagen Golf.

Ahmed, 23, of Somerville Road, Small Heath, Birmingham and Asim, 19, of Fallows Road, Birmingham both admitted a single count of robbery.

Ahmed denied a count of dangerous driving on the M5 and A491 Sandy Lane in Lydiate Ash, near Bromsgrove and his not guilty plea was accepted by the Crown, represented at the hearing by Christopher Lester.

Mr Lester said both men’s basis of plea were that they were ‘not the prime movers’ in the robbery.

The taking of the car involved a collision between a Seat car and the VW Golf with the Seat crashing into the back of the Golf, the court heard.

A second crash involving the stolen Golf followed afterwards.

Zaheer Afzal, for Asim, said it was the defence case that there were four men involved in the robbery and that Asim and Ahmed had been in the rear of the car.

Mr Lester said, at one stage, a police officer described the stolen car as being driven at speeds of up to 130mph before the crash.

Mr Lester said Ahmed’s DNA was found on the airbag but he added the Crown was not pursuing the dangerous driving matter.

Judge Robert Juckes QC adjourned the case until January 14 for the probation service to prepare pre-sentence reports for both men.

He warned the defendants that this was not not to be taken as an indication of the type of sentence to follow.

He added: “They are at risk of a custodial sentence.

"Robbery offences are usually dealt with by sentences of immediate imprisonment.”

Both men were granted unconditional bail until the next hearing.
