A WIDOW has published a book of poems in memory of her chaplain husband, who volunteered at St Richard’s Hospice.

Barbara Hopper, aged 80, is selling the booklet, titled Pondering Poetically, to raise money for the Worcester-based charity, which cares for people in their final days.

Her husband, Reverend Peter Hopper, who also worked at the city’s cathedral, died aged 78 in 2016.

Mrs Hopper, of Hornsby Avenue, in Worcester, said: “The booklet is in memory of my late husband. I put in a huge amount of effort in producing the poetry booklet, doing all the layout and cover.

“The poems have been written over a period of 50 years. Some are serious but most are for fun.”

One of the poems was written by Mrs Hopper’s father, while another was penned by her eldest brother.

The retiree is already the author of several local history books about Worcester, although she stopped writing to care for her husband.

The £4.50 booklets are available at St Richard's Hospice shops and the Lyppard Hub.
