BROADWAY Arts Festival has won a prestigious award.

Broadway Arts Festival took place between June 8 and 17 at various venues in the beautiful Cotswold village of Broadway, and over the 10 days it featured diverse, creative, educational and entertaining events.

The festival has now won the 'Best Festival or Event' at the Visit Worcestershire Awards of Excellence 2018.

Karen Bloch, chairman of the management committee, was presented with the award by television presenter, historian and author Professor Kate Williams at a ceremony in Worcester on September 11.

The 2018 festival was bigger and more diverse than any prior attracting thousands of visitors from across the UK and abroad. The wide-ranging programme of arts events included celebrity speakers such as Andrew Graham Dixon and Tristram Hunt and inspired, encouraged and entertained anyone with an interest in the arts.

A new introductory weekend featured 'artBEAT' showcasing the work of some of Britain’s top artists, designers and artisans as well as live demonstrations and workshops led by internationally renowned contemporary artists.

As they are a charitable trust, each year arts grants are made to local students age 18 or over on September 1, starting or in full time education in the arts. This grant applies to students studying Fine Art, Applied Arts, Music or the Performing Arts living in or near the WR12 postcode. Anyone who wants to apply can do so at broadwayartsfestival.com.

The deadline for application is September 30.

Broadway has been a centre for the arts since the late 19th century with its legacy of the unique artistic heritage of the world-famous Broadway Colony of American artists, writers and musicians who made it their creative inspiration.

The next Broadway Arts Festival will be held between June 5 and 14, 2020.
