MARK Cargill has been elected Warwickshire County Councillor for Alcester in the local elections.

Councillor Cargill (Conservative) received 1,841 votes and will take over the reins from fellow Tory Mike Gittus who stepped down in April after eight years serving Alcester on the county council. 

Susan Juned (Liberal Democrat) received 1,227 votes, Andrew Foster (Labour) received 161 and candidate Duncan Parker (Green party) received 106 votes. 

The turnout was 40.6 per cent.

In Bidford & Welford, which had a turnout of 38.3 per cent, Tory Mike Brain has been easily elected with a strong 1,945 votes.

Debbie Griffiths (Green Party) got 150 votes, William Horton (Liberal Democrat) got 702 votes, Graham Porter (UKIP) received 178 votes, and Cat Price (Labour) had 323.

In Studley, where the turnout was 39.1 per cent, Clive Rickhards (Liberal Democrat) just won with 1,195 votes.

Second was Justin Kerridge (Conservative) with a very close 1,170.

Alistair Goddon (Green Party) got 67, and Chris Pilkington (Labour) got 270 votes.

Overall turnout figure for Stratford District area was 39.7 per cent.
