BBC Radio Four newsreader Rory Morrison, who has died aged 48 from a rare form of cancer, was respected for his complete professionalism, the corporation said this week.

Mr Morrison grew up in Malvern, attending the Chase High School and subsequently Malvern College.

He began with the BBC in 1990, working on local radio stations and the British Forces Broadcasting Service before joining BBC Radio 4 The station's controller Gwyneth Williams said: "Rory Morrison has been at the heart of Radio 4 for many years and was respected for his intelligence, integrity and complete professionalism.

"As a continuity announcer and a newsreader, he was admired for the warmth of his voice, his clarity and his perfect timing. He was loved by all who knew him. We offer our deep sympathy to his family in their loss."

Morrison reported and presented a range of output, from working on the BBC's From Our Own Correspondent programme, to spending New Year's Eve 1999 on stand-by in case the Millennium bug threatened the corporation's broadcasting. He eventually joined the newsreading team.

In 2004 he was diagnosed with a rare type of lymphoma.
