A large moorland blaze on a National Trust estate in Cheshire has been brought under control by firefighters.

Lyme Park, near Disley, was closed to the public as 10 fire engines were sent to the scene on Thursday afternoon.

No injuries were reported, but residents of the surrounding area were warned to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution.

Fire crews tackled the blaze on three fronts to stop it spreading to nearby areas of woodland, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

They were supported by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, using specialist moorland firefighting equipment.

The blaze, which affected an area covering six hectares, was brought under control by Thursday night, and will be monitored overnight to ensure it does not flare up again.
