CONFECTIONERY giant Haribo is opening its second outlet store in the UK at the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet York.

The 1,487 square foot unit will be launched at the complex, situated just off the A64 near Fulford, next Thursday, following the success of a southern outlet store, which was unveiled at the London Designer Outlet in Wembley Park in 2017.

Rebecca Fox, retail manager at Haribo, said having its own stores had been on the company's agenda for some time.

"It’s a move that is integral to our growth strategy and to driving our success as we continue to showcase our range and communicate our fantastic brand personality and strength across the UK," she said.

“With such a diverse mix of leading brands and strong footfall ,the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet York is the perfect location for us and further builds on the success that we have seen from our first outlet store in London, bringing us closer to achieving our ambitious retail plans.”

A spokeswoman said that, offering a taste of the Happy World of Haribo, the new York store would offer a selection of treats that expanded on and complement what was already on offer within the UK, showcasing party packs and sharing formats alongside a pick ‘n’ mix zone and branded merchandise.

"A family-owned business, Haribo has been making much-loved sweets for almost 100-years," she said.

"Today these treats are shared and enjoyed around the world. Launching into the UK market in 1972 Haribo operates two manufacturing facilities in West Yorkshire, which are home to more than 700 team members.

"Today, Haribo is the world market leader in the fruit gum and liquorice segment. Top selling products Starmix, Tangfastics and Supermix are firm family favourites."

McArthurGlen Designer Outlet York Centre manager, Mike Thomas, said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming the Haribo store to our portfolio.

"The brand will be a great addition to our diverse collection, and will no doubt be a firm favourite amongst our customers and just in time for Christmas as well.”

He added that while visiting the new Haribo store, shoppers would also be able to discover a fabulous range of Christmas gifting for up to less 60 per cent less from designer brands including Coach and Molton Brown.
