YOUNGSTERS were rewarded for their commitment to reading during a special presentation ceremony at Upton Library.

A record 90 children took part in the library’s annual Summer Reading Challenge, which this year had the theme of ‘Circus Stars’.

To successfully complete the challenge youngsters had to read six books over the summer holidays.

A total of 30 participants finished the challenge and were rewarded for their efforts with medals, presented by Worcestershire County Council chairman Ed Moore and Upton’s local representative Coun Bob Bullock.

Jo Portman, manager of Upton Library, said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the record participation this year and with the great turnout for the presentation. It was a great celebration for reading.”

She added: “Special thanks also go to our volunteers, Brady Masterson, Kirsty Masterson, Victoria Jarvis, and Harriet Snell, who helped us deliver the circus activities that the young people enjoyed so much.”

The presentation event also included a prize draw to win signed copies of books by Mike Smart and Korky Paul from the Hay Literary Festival. The lucky winners were Charlotte Harber-Wills and Georgia Andrews. Prizes were also awarded to the children who read the most books.
