MALVERN Rotary Club will once again be offering people the chance to remember their loved ones with shining lights over the festive period.

For the ninth successive year it is organising its Tree of Light, which will illuminate Priory Park in the run-up to Christmas.

Club members will be stringing lights on a 100-foot tall conifer at the back of Malvern Theatres, which can be dedicated in exchange for a donation to charity.

The scheme has been a huge success in previous years, raising more than £67,000 for a variety of charities.

This year 45 per cent of proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and the same amount to Acorns Children’s Hospice. The remaining 10 per cent will be used to support other Rotary charities.

The club had also intended to provide funds for the Noah’s Ark Trust, however the charity went into administration earlier this month.

A list of sponsors’ names and the names of those remembered will be displayed at Malvern Theatres and in the hub at Malvern Library and the list will also be published online at malverngazette.co.uk and on Malvern Rotary’s website.

The lights themselves will be switched on during a special ceremony on Monday, November 28 and the tree will remain lit until Twelfth Night, January 5.
