COLWALL Players are in the final week of rehearsals for their next presentation.

Their production of Ivan Menchell’s The Cemetery Club continues their policy of providing their audiences with a richly varied diet.

After the inspired lunacy of Frankenstein the Panto in February, followed by the harrowing emotional reality of Kindertransport in May, the autumn production gives is a quirky but humorous picture of triumph over adversity.

The Cemetery Club is a darkly joyous comedy that looks simultaneously backwards and forwards. It explores the friendships and rivalries of three recently bereaved widows as together they come to terms with the sorrows and joys of their single lives.

The stories of friendship and of loss unfold with a humour that is ultimately life-enhancing, with lavish helpings of guilt, glamour and giggles on the way. All the characters are richly comic creations providing rewards in plenty for players and audiences alike.

The play has been a favourite for revival, both professional and amateur, since its first production on Broadway in 1990. A successful film version was released in 1993; its most notable stage revival was a touring production in 2003, starring Michelle Dotrice and Edward Woodward.

The Players' production is on at Colwall Village Hall at 7.30pm, on Thursday-Saturday, October 27-29.

The experienced team features Andy Howie directing with design by Iain Young. The cast includes Dianne Lloyd, Sue Jago and Angela Meredith in the three central roles.

Tickets at £7.50 (£4 or under-16s) can be booked in advance from John Goodwin Estate Agent in Colwall, on 01684 540300.
