A MALVERN councillor and the chairman of a car club will be putting on their running shoes for a good cause on Sunday, October 23.

Rebecca Massey and Eddie Cochrane are both taking part in the Bupa Great Birmingham Run, the leading half-marathon in the Midlands.

And they are both raising money for the charity Children With Cancer UK, which funds research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancers, and also provides care for children with cancer.

Rebecca, of Abbey Road, said: "I'm a district councillor and I'm the council's champion for children and young people. I'm aiming to encourage as many young people in Malvern as possible to engage in charity, so that's basically the reason why I'm running.

"I've run the Malvern half-marathon a couple of times before, and that's why I chose this way of raising money."

Eddie, of Cotswold Road, is the chairman of Mercia Minis, the leading county club for fans of the iconic car.

He said: "One of our members from Worcester lost their daughter to cancer two years ago, and the club has been raising money for Acorns and other charities like that since then.

"That's why I'm doing the run for Children With Cancer. I did it a few years ago, and I finished in two hours 42 minutes. I'd like to beat that time, and I'd like to finish in time to get back for the Malvern Mini Show at the Three Counties Showground, anyway."
