MALVERN people are being encouraged to support a record-breaking attempt to create the longest ‘bra chain’ in history.

Bra Chain is a group of local ladies headed by Karen Tomalin who are attempting to raise money for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign, Womens Aid and Breakthrough Breast Cancer by collecting a grand total of 200,000 bras.

People can support the campaign by donating their old bras or sponsoring bras or ‘bra boxes’ - collection points where people can drop off their garments for the chain.

As of last week, bra boxes are now located in the foyer at Malvern Hills Science Park. Tracey Nash, who sponsored one of the boxes, explained: “We’re really trying to get the ball rolling with this campaign in Malvern, and we are hoping to get more businesses involved, as well as local schools.

“We’ve already seen a bit of a snowball effect in Worcester and we’re hoping the same happens here.”

She added: “We’ve already had about 100,000 bras donated, so we’re half way there, but we still need more support to reach the target.”

Bra Chain will attempt to break the Guinness World Record at Worcester Racecourse on Sunday, July 31.

Bras of any condition can be donated. After the record attempt, those in good condition will be donated to Women’s Aid groups while old bras will be recycled and turned into cash for the charities.
