UNEMPLOYMENT in the Malvern Hills rose by more than 100 people last month.

New figures from the Office for National Statistics show that 1,073 people claimed job seekers’ allowance in January, equivalent to 2.4 per cent of the working age population. There were 967 claimants the previous month.

The picture across the West Midlands is not a positive one, with unemployment rising by more than 8,000 in the last three months to January, taking the total to 161,566.
