STAR of stage and screen Liza Goddard will be lending a touch of celebrity to Malvern Rotary Club’s annual pancake race.

She will be taking time out from appearing in Alan Ayckbourn’s “Life of Riley “ at Malvern Theatres to get competitors under the starters orders on Shrove Tuesday, March 8.

Rotary is now appealing for teams of four people to sign up for the fun event.

There will be prizes for the best veterans team (average age over 50), best elite team (average age under 50), most sponsored team and best fancy dress.

Entry costs £5 per person and participants are encouraged to raise sponsorship money.

Waitrose is sponsoring the race and proceeds will support Polio Plus - Rotary’s campaign to eradicate polio worldwide - as well as local causes.

The pancake race starts at 12.30pm, preceded for the first time this year by a toddlers’ race, starting at 11.30am.

Entry forms for the main race are available from Malvern Library, the Splash, and Malvern Tourist Information Centre or by calling 01684 862430.

For more details about the toddlers’ race (which has no entry fee or sponsorship requirement) call 01684 563429 or 01684 862324.
