GREAT Malvern Priory will be celebrating the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible by playing recordings of the entire New Testament being read aloud.

The readings will start on Ash Wednesday, March 9, and continue throughout Lent.

The project is the Priory's response to the Bible Society's You’ve Got The Time initiative, which aims to use the anniversary as a springboard for activities that teach the Bible and promote its use.

The readings will be from 1pm to 1.30pm daily, except Sundays, and a few occasions when there is some other activity in the church.

The recordings for each day's readings are also available from the Bible Society website as MP3 files for people to download.

Rev Mary Barr, the Priory's associate minister, said: "Whether you’re on a lunch-break, at the gym, walking the dog, cleaning the house, cooking, gardening, commuting to work, or whatever, you can listen to scripture for half-an-hour each day during Lent.

"The added dimension to the Bible Society’s project is that churches using the You’ve Got The Time material also support the Faith Comes By Hearing project, making a donation towards Proclaimers, wind-up or solar-powered audio players that enable folk in developing countries to listen to scripture in their own language too."
