MALVERN's former community hospital could be surrounded by a seven-foot ten inch-high (2.4 metre) security fence if planning consent is given.
Worcestershire Primary Care Trust (PCT) has applied to Malvern Hills District Council to erect the fence around the disused hospital in Lansdowne Crescent.
In a statement with the application, Pinnegar Hayward Design, acting for the PCT, says: "The site needs to be protected whilst its future is determined. As this may take some time, a secure site boundary fence is required to prevent trespass."
In 1995, Malvern Hills District Council approved a draft statement providing guidance for any future development of the hospital site.
It said that the Edwardian building should be converted into flats, to a maximum number of 15, and that half of them should be affordable.
PCT spokesman Tom Grove said this week that the intention is to sell off the old hospital, but the PCT itself did not have any plans to put in any planning applications for change of use.
