YOUNG people in Malvern have shown a keen interest in politics by putting their names forward for upcoming youth elections.

Nominations have now been closed and shortlists of candidates drawn up for both the Worcestershire Youth Cabinet and UK Youth Parliament.

The Malvern Hills district has eight of a total 21 candidates - more than any other district - standing for the youth cabinet, while West Worcestershire (comprising Malvern Hills and Worcester) boasts half of the 18 candidates for the UK Youth Parliament.

Kirsty Fraser, Worcestershire County Council’s youth voice development worker, said: “The number of candidates is very encouraging and proves that our county’s young people aren’t all turned off by politics.

“Young people do want to make a difference and are prepared to get involved in tackling issues affecting children and young people in their areas.”

Voting will take place across the county from January 24 until February 6, and the results will be announced on Saturday, February 19.

Each candidate has written a manifesto that is available to view online. For more information visit ycworcs.org.uk.
